Tech Trek

The beginning of my journey into Technology

I decided to begin my blog off by setting the tone for my posts this semester, for my class in Internet Essentials, CIS 164. Each week of this assignment I plan to check out the latest in technology from social networking, smart phones, video editing, games and apps.
So....I have started my first semester of school, my journey into the land of computer technology and wondering where it will lead me.  Right now I am undecided as to what I want to do in my future with the knowledge I am about to gain.  Although I have used computers over many years I have been using a computer in my everyday life since 2005 and have learned many things along the way.
The last month I learned how to write my first program, its very exciting to me that I actually learned how to write a silly little program about a family of penguins.  After the last few weeks working with a program called Alice, we are going to be working with Visual Basic now.  Alice was simple to understand for someone who has no experience with how to write code and I'm anxious to see how the transition will be from Alice to Visual Basic.

  1. Hi Charlotte! I do not have very much experience in programming, but would like to steer in that direction. Are Alice and Visual Basics classes that are available at SWIC? I like that you said it was simple to understand. I need something like that!LOL

    1. Wow, hi Deb, didn't see your comment. I took Intro to computer programming and that's where I am learning Alice and Visual Basic. Next semester I will go on to Visual Basic Programming I

  2. Just stopping by. Yes, Deb, I don't remember what number the class is, but it's a CIS class called Introduction to Programming. Alice is a simple Object Oriented Program that deals more with making objects move. No real coding, just learning the mechanics of it.
Then after a few weeks, you go into Visual Studio, which is coding, but you learn how to program slowly. I would recommend that class if you're interested in learning how to code.
